The Human Soul

Had a spontaneous lunch break yesterday – hotpot at Red Chilli Hotpot Restaurant on Glebe Point Road, (and lo and behold, I didn’t have my camera on me). The five of us ate $125 worth of food and it was OH SO GOOD. Hot chilli goodness, mushrooms, cabbage, meat, quail eggs, fish balls, tofu and a variety of sauce concoctions!

Only downfall from an awesome lunch like that? So much food in our tummies, couldn’t walk, couldn’t laugh, it hurt to talk… just a touch and it would’ve been your worse day. Ever.

Thanks for the invite Helena, was really good to get away from the office! =D

And guess what? It’s Friday today, oh hells yeah!

Coffee Sam Soon

The bakery in Strathfield is finally open! YAYYYYYYY… coincidentally, I went for a walk this arvo and surprise surprise, the bakery “Hello Happy” had its doors open and had a free tasting “party time” between the hours of 3 and 7. Score! Carbs, here I come.

Line of taste testers; staff member preparing drinks.

Biscuits, buns and cakes.

Sweet and savory buns and rolls; almost like Bread Top.

Friendly staff serving customers; taste tester plate.

Assortment of sweet and savoury buns; bacon and cream cheese, sultana, green bean, cinnamon scroll, coconut bun, green tea, etc.

Mini blueberry tart and lemon meringue custard.

The interior felt like a cross between the kdramas My Name is Kim Sam Soon and Coffee Prince as staff members were dressed in their patisserie uniforms with the colour scarves and chef hats, and the paintings on the wall were of fun cartoons and random caricatures, much like the ones seen in Coffee Prince. The ambience was pretty relaxing, the furniture and finishing touches on the walls were fun, warm and inviting and the staff were super friendly and attentive. I can’t wait to go back next week for a coffee and a cake, or bun, or both.

80s feel

Saturday night was spent as a couch potato in front of the tele (yay for The Notebook), whilst Nomz partied it up 80s style at Hung’s 30th!

Cheeseeeeeeeee!

And one of my favourite quotes from the movie:

I am nothing special; just a common man with common thoughts, and I’ve led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten. But in one respect I have succeeded as gloriously as anyone who’s ever lived: I’ve loved another with all my heart and soul; and to me, this has always been enough.” – Noah

Pulled Fabric

Sunday was a refreshing change from the last.. say 5 Sundays  previous. HA!

I woke up early, (surprise surprise), had a healthy brekky and proceeded to watch CoCo Chanel. Surprisingly the movie was really really enjoyable. Chanel is LOVE. Her values, her thoughts, her visions, what she embodies, wow. What a strong powerful woman. I can’t wait to watch Coco avant Chanel which was released not too long ago.

By midday, Nomz emerges from the room and comes downstairs asking me whether I’d like to go cycling. Let me rephrase this, Naomi – the lazy one, asked ME, if I wanted to go cycling with her, HELL YEAH! I’m not gonna turn this offer down, cause who knows when the next time she’ll ask me this! Hahahah! Sports for the win! Which reminds me, I wanted to go watch an AFL footy game this year, but the seasons almost over already! I didn’t even know, Sydney’s not really into AFL are they? HMPH!

This scene was too cute. The little boy curled up on the front was hitching a free ride from older brother I assume.

It was almost like torture cycling, just because there were family bbq’s EVERYWHERE and we were getting hungry after all that cycling. Was hoping someone would give us some food.. hahaha! So how did we deal with hungry tummies? Shanghai Night, here we come!

Jellyfish and cucumber salad; yum yum yum. Cook, refreshing, nice balance of textures and just really really yummy.

Pan fried buns; a little on the oily side and not much soup in the centre.
Conclusion, their next door rivals: New Shanghai do a better job producing these delicious nuggets.

Just two more days to go!
