Howdy howdy?

This weather is atrocious to say the least. No one likes to wake up to rain pissing pouring in the middle of the night/ morning. And it doesn’t help when my house has a tin roof!! Aeishhhh~ Onto other things, other exciting or not so exciting things, but if food’s part of the equation, then that’s 2 brownie points towards it being an exciting thing:

Went on a food excursion with N (one of many), this time, exhibit A: Culshaw’s Grill. The restaurant itself is small, very small. Service friendly but clueless and food was a major flop. Meh.

culshaw's grill, risotto and kangaroo
Garlic prawn risotto with saffron, lemon thyme and champagne cream finished with gremolata and a parmesan crisp;
Chargrilled chilli marinated kangaroo fillet on a tartlet of braised red onion and capsicum with a blueberry glaze

Did something a bit different this past weekend, tagged along to a friends friend birthday party for drinksies! The crowd was slightly older and not exactly the accomodating type but hey, at least they appeared friendly! Hahaha, I was the responsible one with the car so consumed 2 drinks throughout the night on an empty stomach.. maybe not the smartest idea! So to absorb the alcohol and to un-tipsy myself (yes, I’m weak), my friends and I head to Macca’s which happens to be right across the road! Now, a normal capable person would just leg it across the road to stuff themselves with delicious crap, and that indeed was our plan. That is, until we stepped outside and the winter frost and chill bestowed its power upon us.

Car keys?! CHECK.

Yeah, we did it. We took the car to Macca’s. Yes, I know, it was only across the road. BUT. (There’s always a “but”). It was FREEZING and it looked like it was closed with only the drive through operating. Ha! A few minutes later, we park, get in and order. (Yeah, it was still open.. haha!) Did I order you ask? Did I break my drought of 2 years on the Maccas ban? Unfortunately I did!! *gasps* Yes, I had my first bite of a Macca’s chicken wrap. My first bite in 2 years and I’ve got to say, I have not been missing out on anything. It was crap, bland, flavourless and just… CRAP. Back on the macca’s ban I go, but this time, I gotta start again. Le sighhhhhhh. So 4 days and counting.. haha!! Btw, I’ve also been on a Hungry Jacks/ Burger King and KFC ban, 1 and a half years and 3 years respectively. Try to break my ban, I dare you!

Oooh oh! Went shopping on Sunday and scored all of thisssssssssss:

for $105 all up! YES! BARGAINS!! Now I have more clothes for work and play. πŸ™‚ A school-esque blazer, coat, striped shirt, lace top, work skirt, slouch pants and high waisted pants. SCORE!

Another food excursion was in progress last night, exhibit B: The Sebel Playford. Dress code: fine dining. Well, the sky was unforgiving with blasting the city with rain, gust and wind. And I had work so black pants and leather jacket was going to have to suffice! Hahahah, sucks for me cause all my pretty friends were in their dresses and heels! Oh well.

Throughout the course of our dinner, we were being referred to as ‘Madam’ by our waiter. Hrms.. me and ‘Madam’ is like chalk and cheese, it just doesn’t work. Hahaha, no need for terms mister waiter! πŸ™‚

Food was good albeit a bit small (mainly just my dish)! I was still so hungry after mains and dessert! 😦

the sebel playford, desserts, marshmallow, chocolate terrine
Citrus marshmallow – compressed pineapple, coriander, Malibu and pineapple sorbet
Callebaut chocolate terrine – organic milk jelly, roast banana mousse and chocolate soil

And to make up for the mini hiatus from blogging, a little something I did:

Good day/ night everyone!

Excursion number 3 in the works for the weekend, Exhibit C: *Roar*

Exhibition YC and navigation fail

Ok, catching up on my blog posts!

Last week, my friends and I managed to annihilate 17 dishes and at least 10 pots of tea at yum cha within the duration of an hour. Yes, food comas were undoubtedly in order but it was well worth it!

citi zen, yum cha, siu mai, har gao, dumplings

The we fast forward to this weekend… a long weekend in fact. (YAY!) And what a great one it’s proved to be thus far.

Kicked the week off on Friday night with Nghi and had a much needed dose of Tori Mayo at the china town food court. Let me tell you, don’t let food court food fool you! (Tongue tied anyone?) This tori mayo will set you back a whopping $8.30 and is unbelievably delicious!

After devouring every little thing on my plate, we head to Bread Top to pick up some buns for my mother and then Cibo for a hot warm coffee and a catch up session. Fun fun!

As usual, Saturday morning is devoted to a morning hike up Mt Lofty. After the hike, I drop by a nearby shopping centre and score myself a brand new trench coat for $42 from $130! EOFYS, oh what bliss! πŸ™‚

Dinner was planned a few days prior: a nice dinner with my bestie at the Mt Lofty summit restaurant over looking the city. Problem was, we didn’t know how to get there by car! Sure, we’ve walked up the mountain on countless occasions, but we’ve never had to take the car, and therefore a different route. I mean, surely we’d find our way there! We have TOMTOM (GPS navigation) and if that fails, we both have google maps on our phone. What do you know? We get lost finding the restaurant! Hahaha, stupid TOMTOM keeps navigating us back into the city, so we ignore that, and googlemaps only got us so far cause we lost reception on our phones! FAIL. We find ourselves in woop woop, a dead end road, no sign of life, no lights, stark darkness – LOST and late for our dinner booking. Hahaha!

We navigate ourselves back into the suburbs, get reception and take a different route. This time, we find ourselves going up the mountain on one side, and then back down the other side and finally, (at long last) we arrive at our destination! Thank gosh, an epic journey to get there and an epic meal to end it off! The food was absolute bliss:

the summit, pork cutlet, beef fillet
Pork cutlet on roasted caramelised pumpkin and sauteed spinach with rosemary and port glaze; eye fillet of beef on crushed new potatoes with truffle butter, confit shallots and beef jus.

the summit, pavlova
Pavlova with mixed berry compote, passion fruit puree and fresh cream

Attempted to take a picture of the city from the Summit just out the front of the restaurant:

GRSS.. no tripod, unbearable weather, had one go and had to bolt to the car! Lol, will have to have another go when the weather starts warming up a bit, or getting one of those sleeping bag-like jackets that the Korean actors wear when they’re filming. You know the ones I’m talking about? Those big puffy shapeless parachute material things that run down to your shins with a fur lined hoodie. Yeah, I need one of those to tackle this weather! πŸ™‚

Finished the night off at besties house just mingling and enjoying each others company.

Today was much more low key but still epic as the papa and I ran amok in Ikea. Literally. Hahaha picked up a few things.. how can you not at Ikea? C’mon, even before you exit the bloody store, they tempt you with one dollar hot dogs, yes…ONE DOLLAR hot dogs. Can you turn that down? You can ey? How about a dollar ice cream? Huh huh?! Well you probably could too, but point is, you’ll more than likely walk away from Ikea with something. Anything.

Now if I was smart, I’d hop into bed, have an early night and get up early to catch the Socceroos at 4am with their first match against Germany. But we all know, I’m not smart and will probably not get into bed til about 1 or 2… and regret it 2 hours later. Ha!

Black or white

Transformers 2 wasn’t exactly full of awesomeness, but it was good – action wise, special effects wise and Megan Fox hotness wise. Plot… er, forget it. LOL. Straight after theΒ  movie, we head to Lindt cafe (finally!) but damn the 10% surcharge just cause it’s a Sunday! >=( Whilst chit chatting with the three musketeers, I call my parentals to see how they’re doing.. and that is when I discovered that I am the biggest idiot on earth. BIGGEST IDIOT, no one can compare! I shall digress after a few pictures…

Can you see why I’m the biggest idiot on earth?! It took me 5 hours to discover that I WORE MISMATCHED SHOES OUT. WTF?! HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA shit me, how freaking embarassing. I have no idea what I was on, but FARK…. that’s just… bad ass. The round toe flats had charms on them but I took them off to look less… obvious… Hhaahah, go on, have your laugh, I’d be laughing too as didNoms, K and Chinga. Stupid me – delirious!!

Moving straight along, hahaha, we dined with Asher at La Boheme – a European restaurant in Balmain – a rather expensive dinner I must add – actually an expensive weekend all up (blah). I’ve never had European food before (Czech, German) and I was expecting it to be meaty… and it sure was meaty.. I’m for meat and all, but hot damn, I could’ve OD’ed on the amount of meat there was… I still feel sick from thinking about the dishes we ordered.. will attempt to eat as much veggies as I can this week to make up for a carnivourous Sunday nights dinner.

French snails in Almond Garlic Butter; my first time devouring these backyard friends and I’m not a fan. The texture is very “mussel” like; chewy and juicy but there’s this lingering after taste of dirt – which I’m not terribly fond of.

Grilled Pork Knuckle with Mustard, Horseradish & Bavarian Bread; tastes very much like Heo Quay, crispy crackle and succulent tender pork, I thought it was a bit fatty though but nevertheless, it was pretty good – super meaty!

Golden Roasted Duck based on an old Czech Recipe accompanied by Red Cabbage, Sauerkraut, Potato & Speck Dumplings; nothing special I don’t think.

Other dishes ordered:
– Bavarian Feast Platter: Chef’s selection of Duck, Schnitzel, Ribs, Sausages with Sauerkraut, Red Cabbage & Mixed Dumplings: MEH.
– Chicken Breast with Spinach & Ricotta topped with a King Prawn served with Mushroom Risotto: the chicken was over cooked and therefore dry – rather disappointing I thought.
– 04 Vampire Merlot, Doc Recas, Transylvania: yum – and I’m not much of a red wine drinker.

I’ve concluded that European food isn’t to my liking… – LOL. I wouldn’t go out of my way to get some European food, I’d rather just cook myself or go out and get some cheap Asian food which totally hits the spot! At least I can now say that I’ve tried it, especially escargot!

Sunday night concluded with chef Chinga making us pumpkin soup, the 3 musketeers having some chup chup and all of us just chilling out watching the Wimbledon finals! Congrats to Federer for making it 15!! YOU THE MAN! Props to Arod though, what a comeback, who would’ve thought that he would get so far and to push Federer so much. What would have happened if he converted one of those set points in the second set… I guess we’ll never know. I hope he at least takes out a slam before he decides to retire… this also applies to Mr. Safin – wishful thinking… =(

The weekend can’t come soon enough! Most likely will be spending it in this week as I’m broke as! DAMN rent and bills. *le sigh*
